A Behind the Scenes Look {Before and After}

I thought I would share what a normal newborn setup looks like when you get to my studio for your session.

This pullback is from a session I did a couple of weeks ago.

My studio is full of natural sunshine, so no bright flashing lights to wake and startle your baby. I also keep the room nice and toasty with a heater close by.

The resulting photo was shot using a very similar setup. (I didn't use the black backdrop for the session I shot the pullback from.)

Pretty cool how something so simple can create such a stunning and memorable photo!

Stay tuned to the first of March and follow along as I take a photo a day for 31 days of things that are important to me or inspire me.

Why Black and White isn't just Black and White

Ever wonder why black and white photos vary so much these days? Or how you can order two photos from the same place at the same time and come up with two very different colorings?

Take the following example:

This photo was changed to black and white using a very common program. Looks more like grey and grey than black and white to me :)

I took the photo into my editing software and converted it to black and white and then tweaked some settings to get the photo below:

This photo looks much better. The background is white instead of grey. See the difference?

nice and gloomy vs nice and bright.

I can also do fun black and white conversions which will really set your photos apart.

This is what I call a butterscotch black and white. Not your usual black and white or sepia photo.

So next time you want a black and white picture, choose a professional with a professional lab.
